Early in the morning installed in a hideout along a small pond of water in the bush , we were enthralled to see the different variety of birds drinking at the edge of the water, the ring necked dove, is also known as the Cape turtle dove or half-collared dove, together with the Fischer’s lovebird and the Burchell’s starling.

Rare Small Mammal /
The tree hyrax is also called a Dassie or a rock rabbit and is a small furry mammal and mostly solitary although sometimes they can sometimes be found in pairs.It lives in the trees and their dens are generally made in the hollow of a decaying tree or a nook between two branches.We spotted this hyrax nestled in his den in the early morning light which was amazing as it is a nocturnal mammal.

Porcupine Quill /
The game wardens call him Spike. This young leopard had attacked a porcupine and was rewarded with a porcupine quill darted in his nose. He looked so sorry for himself and we felt sorry for him. He tried to pull it out with his paw but unfortunately broke it. Either it will be become infected and will fall out on its own or it will prevent him from hunting as it could go further into his nose and would die of starvation. Survival in the bush is not easy.
